WHY WE NEED TECHNOLOGY

Of course we need technology, who says we don’t?

Even the people who say we don’t need it still greatly benefit from it so why do they still reject it? Could it be miseducation or just blatant Ignorance or a terrible combination of both? Or maybe a conspiracy theory or series of predictions who knows? I will help point out as many advantages of technology I can from this topic and as well do my best to speak on the conspiracy aspect.

Technology as we all know is simply an application of scientific knowledge which eventually propels man to seek practical solutions to so many problems that befall mankind frequently. By acknowledging a problem, it has been half solved but creating a solution, it’s the main task. In many nations across the globe today, we can clearly see how technology has become a force to reckon with, either in the health sector, educational sector, aviation, infrastructure, automobile, petrochemicals, engineering and construction industries, food and agriculture, power, etc.

In the health sector, we are already aware that years ago, medical science was not this advanced. What happened as a result? High mortality rates which even had rapid growth. It took years of medical research from medical experts who didn’t only follow that carrier path because of money but were driven by passion to solve more problems. Today we have advanced tools and medications in fighting illnesses. There are alternative methods for women to conceive such as IVF, artificial insemination and surrogacy. Apart from the natural way of birthing children, the surgical method popularly known as caesarean section can be highly recommended in case of birth complications. That way, the mother and child get to live. Other illnesses like HIV, Cancer or diabetes which are yet to have a permanent cure have inspired other health experts to undergo research that will enable them find a cure to these diseases. That way, they make life better for mankind.

The educational sector has immensely contributed to technological advancement over the years simply by virtue of knowledge. This is even one crucial aspect that needs to be taken very serious in every society because it is through the educational route that positive or negative change in a society is determined. So if the government of a nation ensures a high standard of education for its nation, then that government has obviously shown concern for the future generations who will imbibe all the advanced knowledge that will be made possible through the new policies put in place. Sadly, the opposite is the case in other nations and the results are there for all to see.

The aviation industry is one which has shown the might of technological advancement as it deals with the manufacturing, operation, care and maintenance of aircrafts. Anyone who has been on a plane can testify that aircraft’s are one of the greatest invention by man. Traveling long distance journeys at times could be very challenging and even dangerous as adventurous and fun as they were but thank God for flying machines!!! Everything has been made easier because of people with advanced thinking. Today you can purchase your flight ticket and hop into a plane and fly to any destination of your choice at shorter distances compared to if they were by foot, road, rail or sea.

The construction industry is another sector where technological advancement has reached its peak. From the manufacturing of materials used in construction to the installation of these materials, one can say that technological advancement is one of the greatest things that ever happened to mankind. For a very long time, stone has been seen as a major building material. Same as mud, bamboo and wood. Later on, concrete and mud bricks were in vogue and still are. Up till today, these materials no matter how old they are, have never stopped bring in use. The difference between now and that time is the polishing and refining of these materials which are now done by machinery and no longer manually as well as the software developed overtime to produce designs before construction commences. Ranging from smaller projects to bigger projects, construction of buildings, roads, bridges, flyovers and monuments requires the use of lots of machinery such as tractors, bulldozers, excavators, tippers, cranes, drilling machines, etc. These machines came also as a result of advanced thinking in engineering and automobile industry.

The food and agriculture technology is one other aspect I find interesting because learning about food is fun. Food is colorful. Food is life because it nourishes the body. From the techniques to which the foods are planted, cared for, harvested and packaged for supply, technology definitely plays a huge role in all of it. If Someone has a large farm and intends to harvest a large number of crops, fruits and vegetables either daily, weekly, monthly or annually, the amount of machinery deployed for that task will be much better than manual Labour even if they are large in number. Let’s also remember the irrigation technology put in place to ensure the plants are constantly watered to keep them from dying off. Then when these plants are harvested, they are manufactured for different uses in various factories which will still involve the use of heavy-duty machinery especially the conveyor belts, grinders, etc. Same thing also goes for animal husbandry. Agriculture deals with both plants (flora) and animals (fauna). Even when they contact diseases, scientists conduct series of tests and experiments to know what causes these diseases and how to prevent them and still ensure that preservatives used to protect them won’t be dangerous to consumers. All these require high critical thinking.

The last I want to touch on this aspect of technology is the creation of the internet. The creation of the internet is one of the greatest technological advancements of all time in my opinion being that it is used to solve almost or if not all problems. Ranging from academics to health to food to entertainment to engineering, the major power the internet Carries is information. "Knowledge is power" is one of the wisest statements I’ve ever come across because indeed it is but it even becomes more powerful when anybody can have access to it. This is what the creation of the internet has done and we have Phillip Emeagwali to thank for it.
